This new clinical study compares the effect of an accelerated CXL protocol in patients with keratoconus with the standard Dresden protocol. It shows that a 5 minute irradiation at 18 mW/cm2 induces cross-links, but that the effect is considerably lower than at 3 mW/cm2 or 9 mW/cm2. In conclusion, 5 minutes of irradiation might be “too fast”. Read here.
